Bergamot,
Bergamot oil is truly an uplifting essential oil.
Blend it with quality organic massage base oil and enjoy the power of its refreshing properties to bring some balance back into your energies and spirit.
The scent of the oil is basically citrus, yet fruity and sweet, with a warm spicy floral quality and is reminiscent of Neroli as well as Lavender oil.
The colour of the essential oil ranges from green to greenish-yellow and the oil has a watery viscosity.
The flowers will vary in shade of colour from red to lavender.
The fragrance of this fresh essential oil is a favourite in aromatherapy and is great for creating a more relaxed and happy feeling.
The Oil is extracted from a tree which was native to South East Asia, but it was introduced to Europe and particularly Italy during the development of the spice trading era. It can also be found in the Ivory Coast, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria.
The tree can grow up to four meters high, with star-shaped flowers and smooth leaves, bearing citrus fruit resembling a cross between an orange and a grapefruit, but the fruit is more pear-shape. As the fruit ripens it may range in colour from green to a rich yellow.
The Bergamot oil is one of the most widely used in the perfumery and toiletry industry and forms, together with Neroli and Lavender, the main ingredient for the classical 4711 Eau-de-cologne fragrance.
It is used to flavour Earl Grey tea.
The name is derived from the city Bergamo in Lombardy, Italy, where the oil was first sold.
The oil is extracted by expression from the rind of both ripened and unripened fruit, which yields about 0.5 % volume by weight.
Personally I prefer to use Bergamot in oil burners / vaporizers.
